Top-Ten Stage Finishes by Team Dagger’s Chris Gragtmans, Aniol Serrasolses, and Galen Volkhausen

GREENVILLE, S.C. (May 20, 2014)- Team Dagger athlete Martina Wegman of Netherland took first place overall in the women’s division at the 3rd annual Whitewater Grand Prix (WWGP) in Quebec and Ontario, Canada on May 11. Wegman placed 1st in the Time Trials and Boatercross events, 2nd in the Giant Slalom, 3rd in the Big Wave Challenge and Freestyle Showdown, and 4th in the Single Trick contest for an overall best score of 34 points.
In addition to Martina Wegman’s first place finish, Team Dagger had several top ten finishes in Grand Prix events. Team manager, Chris Gragtmans placed 2nd in the Time Trials creek race and 8th in the Giant Slalom, Aniol Serrasolses placed 6th in the Giant Slalom, Time Trials and Big Wave Challenge, and Nineteen-year-old Galen Volckhausen placed 8th in the Time Trials event.
“The Grand Prix embodies the very essence of adventure and competition, and Dagger is thrilled for Martina Wegman and all of Team Dagger for their accomplishments at what has come to be known as the ultimate whitewater challenge,” said Dagger’s marketing manager Jessica Prescott. “These athletes are pushing the limits of the sport, not only by running the hardest rapids or performing the biggest tricks, but by seeking out new challenges and exploring new rivers. We are proud to support them in these endeavors.”
The 2014 competition, which was held on Canada’s Mistassibi, Rogue, Shawinigan, Ottawa and Basse Cachee Rivers, has grown to be one of the most challenging and respected whitewater events. The world’s best kayakers in all disciplines compete in six events over the course of fourteen days.
The two-week event has a component of adventure and exploration that isn’t found in most organized kayak events. Decisions about which sections of rivers to run are made at the last minute based on flows and river conditions, requiring athletes to be ready for anything, and making it both more fun and more challenging.
