Team Vasque demonstrated their depth and breadth of talent on the trails this past weekend with multiple top performances. From 26 miles to 100, and an off-road triathlon, Vasque athletes were out in force from the East Coast to the Rocky Mountains.
Wild flowers weren’t the only thing putting on an amazing show at the Leadville Silver Rush 50-Mile Trail Run Race in Leadville, CO, as Duncan Callahan, of Gunnison, CO, claimed first place with a record breaking time of 6:50:55. The previous course record was 7:00:09. Not only did Duncan set the new high bar, he managed to cross the line two minutes ahead of the second place finisher.
“Running the Leadville Silver Rush 50 miler was a good choice. The course is rugged and challenging while providing a superb high-altitude training stimulus. The weather this year remained ideal for a peak performance. With each hour, my body felt better and better,†says Callahan, who ran in the Vasque Transistor FS, and plans to go for another big win in Leadville this August.
Keri Nelson, of Moab, UT, blew away the rest of the field at the Kendall Mountain Marathon in Silverton, CO, with a time of 4:38:15. Her closest competitor finished the grueling course in 5:44:40. Nelson opted to do the marathon distance as training for the upcoming Pikes Peak marathon.
Nelson ran in her Vasque Transistors, and reports that they provided excellent, lightweight support and good cushion on the rocky course.
Brian Rusiecki stretched his comfort zone by racing in the Vermont 100 Endurance Race this past Saturday and finished in 8th place with a time of 17:48, a two hour improvement over his time from 2009. Shiloh Mielke represented Vasque at the XTERRA America Tour Mountain Championships held in Beaver Creek, CO, finishing 2nd in the amateur division and 12th overall.
