DENVER, CO (October 19, 2021) – Today Guthook Guides announced it has rebranded as FarOut to better reflect the company’s current business model and plans for future growth. The company’s Bikepacking Guides app will also be consolidated in the FarOut app.
In 2012, Co-Founders Paul Bodnar and Ryan Linn launched the very first iOS app for the Pacific Crest Trail called “Guthook’s Guide to the PCT,” aptly named after Ryan’s “trail name” Guthook. The first Guthook Guides app for Android was released in 2013. What started as a single guide to help fellow thru-hikers on the PCT has since grown to include over 100 hiking, biking, and paddling routes around the world.
“Now that we’re expanding our community to our other favorite activities like bikepacking and paddling, we decided it was time to change the app’s trail name,” said Ryan “Guthook” Linn, Co-Founder of FarOut. “The app, though, that will stay the same. So don’t worry, new name, same team behind the app.”
The FarOut app will remain mostly the same with some minor consolidation updates. Its core audience will still be the robust thru-hiking community but will also expand its reach to other growing outdoor markets like bikepacking and paddling.
“We are excited about this transition, and I’m proud of our talented and hard-working team who made it happen,” said Paul Bodnar, CEO and Co-Founder of FarOut. “And stay tuned, because we are working on some new features that we think our customers will love.”
In addition to consolidating the FarOut app for iOS and Android, the company has also designed a web app which you can now find directly on their website at app.faroutguides.com. This allows for easy access to all the trail guides directly from your computer or tablet.
FarOut, formerly known as Guthook Guides, is the leading creator of mobile app navigational guides for long-distance adventurers. Today FarOut is the No. 1 app for long-distance hiking, biking, and paddling, with over 100 detailed guides around the world. FarOut is rapidly expanding its long-distance bikepacking and road cycling guides with a focus on Australian routes. FarOut is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, and is composed of a small team of experienced long-distance backpackers and hikers committed to partnering with trail organizations to create the highest quality navigational guides available.
