Tender Corp., a leading developer of over-the-counter skincare and first aid products, today announced a major initiative designed to get people into the great outdoors this spring and summer and enjoying a bug-free active lifestyle.
On May 1st, Tender Corp. will launch the Natrapel® 8 hour ‘Ditch the DEET’ Photo Contest. The top prize will see Tender Corp. award a lucky family or group of four a free vacation to New Hampshire’s picturesque White Mountains region. Tender is offering the vacation package through a special partnership with the White Mountains Attractions Association. Secondary prizes include free passes to local attractions, as well as survival packs, first aid kits and other gear designed to help consumers enjoy the outdoors safely, courtesy of Tender’s outdoor division Adventure® Medical Kits (AMK).
To enter the ‘Ditch the DEET’ contest, consumers need to post a photo that captures their favorite bug-free moment in the outdoors to www.ditchthedeet.com. On the same site, people will be encouraged to vote on which photos they like the most. The winners will be decided by the photos that receive the most positive votes.
Containing 20% of the CDC-recommended active ingredient Picaridin, Tender Corp.’s Natrapel® 8 hour DEET-free insect repellent offers outdoor enthusiasts eight hours of protection from mosquitoes, black flies, ticks and other biting and stinging insects. Though it provides protection that’s as effective as DEET, unlike DEET, Natrapel®’s formula is gear safe, non-greasy and mildly scented, making it a much desired alternative to insect repellents currently available at retail.
“Our research has shown overwhelmingly that a majority of consumers harbor serious concerns about the negative aspects of DEET repellents, but they have continued to use them because there’s been no other suitable option,” said Tender’s CEO Jason Cartwright.
With Natrapel® 8 hour, he added, Tender is fulfilling a long-standing consumer need for a repellent that works as well as DEET but has none of its well-known shortcomings.
“It’s our hope that the ‘Ditch the DEET’ contest will help serve the dual purpose of encouraging people to get active in the outdoors and making them aware that when it comes to protecting themselves from insect bites and stings this spring and summer, there’s finally a DEET-free alternative that’s as powerful as DEET – and it’s Natrapel 8 hour,” said Cartwright.
Tender Corp. and Adventure® Medical Kits will support the ‘Ditch the DEET’ contest through targeted online ads, public relations, POP materials, on-pack exposure and in-store sampling at key outdoor channel retailers. Starting April 30, AMK will distribute thousands of ‘Ditch the DEET’ brochures, containing tips on how to avoid and treat insect bites, along with Natrapel® 8 hour Wipes to 65 Eastern Mountain Sports locations, including grand store openings in Peterborough, NH, and Hingham, Mass. Additionally, Tender Corp. will distribute 15,000 Natrapel® Wipes and brochures to racers participating in the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, which is being held in Cleveland, OH, on May 16. Tender Corp. will announce the winners of the ‘Ditch the DEET’ contest when the promotion concludes July 31. Full contest details can be obtained from www.ditchthedeet.com.
*Contest is available to U.S. residents only.
