Teva Mountain Games Return to Vail, May 31-June 3, Registration Open

(VAIL, Colo.) – On the heels of a highly successful, first-ever Winter Teva Mountain Games held this past February, organizers announced today that registration for the annual summer version of the event is now open. The Vail Valley Foundation will host the 11th installment of the summer Teva Mountain Games (TMG) from May 31 – June 3, 2012 in Vail, Colo. The Teva Mountain Games are North America’s largest celebration of adventure sports, art, music and the mountain lifestyle, attracting over 2,500 amateur and professional athletes and 45,000 spectators for the four-day event. “We’re heading into this summer’s Teva Mountain Games with a lot of positive momentum,” said Mike Imhof, vice president of sales and operations for the Vail Valley Foundation. “The inaugural Winter Teva Mountain Games were a huge hit and we now have a year-round community and presence for the Mountain Games. We can’t wait to do it again February 8-10, 2013.”

At the summer Teva Mountain Games, amateur and professional athletes from eight sports and 24 disciplines converge on the rivers and trails of Vail, Colo., to compete for more than $100,000 in prize money each year. TMG features freeride, road and mountain bike races, trail runs, a half marathon, kayaking, rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing and fly-fishing. In addition to adventure sports, there is the Outside Adventure Film School and a photography competition, Mountain Click. The Teva Mountain Games have a family-friendly atmosphere with a myriad of fun and free activities like interactive exhibitions, Gear Town, demo and family areas, DockDog competitions, free concerts, a film series and lots of mountain-town parties.

This summer, the IFSC World Cup Bouldering competition, the only World Cup Bouldering event on U.S. soil, makes its fourth appearance in Vail. Additionally, one of the country’s few whitewater stand up paddling competitions, the First Ascent SUP Surf Sprint and Surf Cross, both presented by C4 Waterman, will be held on Vail’s Gore Creek.
