Teva Returns to the Grand Canyon For Historic River Trip with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and MacGillivray Freeman’s IMAX® Theatre Film Crew
Press Conference with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. at River Trip Launch on Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. at Lee’s Ferry near Page, Arizona
Goleta, CA (Sept. 5, 2006) – Premiere outdoor footwear manufacturer, Teva, (a division of Deckers Outdoor Corporation NASDAQ: DECK), announces today its partnership with top IMAX® theatre film producers MacGillivray Freeman Films and Waterkeeper Alliance on a new film that will help raise awareness for water issues around the world.
Water—it’s the most important story of this century. As the Earth’s population rapidly expands, access to the planet’s finite freshwater supply grows more and more scarce. To help tell this all-important story, Teva has teamed up with MacGillivray Freeman Films, the powerful team that delivered the Academy Award®-nominated IMAX® theatre films Dolphins and The Living Sea and the box office hits Everest and Mystery of the Nile, and Waterkeeper Alliance, a grass roots advocacy organization dedicated to protecting waterways from polluters. Together, they are producing Water Planet: Grand Canyon Adventure, presented by Teva, an exciting new 3-D film for IMAX® theatres set for worldwide release in Spring 2008.
“Since our inception over 20 years ago, we remain committed to the innovation of outdoor performance footwear and the protection of the waterways in which we play,†says Pete Worley, Teva Brand President. “We are thrilled to once again be returning to our heritage on the Grand Canyon and help in the effort to raise awareness of water issues our world faces today.â€
Set against the majestic backdrop of the Grand Canyon, Water Planet will take audiences on an exhilarating 15-day river-rafting adventure down the Colorado River in the company of a team of explorers who are committed to bringing global awareness to the issue of water. The guides on this cinematic journey include Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the world-renowned environmental activist who is leading the charge for increased water conservation and river restoration; Wade Davis, the eminent ethno-botanist whose studies of plants and indigenous cultures in the Amazon River Basin give him a unique perspective for observing conditions along the Colorado River; Shana Watahomigie, a Grand Canyon guide and Native American of the Havasupai tribe; and extreme Team Teva kayaker Nikki Kelly, whose love and enthusiasm for her water sport reveal the joy and fun that rivers represent for recreational water users.
In conjunction with the release of Water Planet, Teva will be debuting their newest evolution in outdoor performance footwear, the Drain Frame collection. Built to perform in and around the water, the Karnali Wraptor and Sunkosi will offer peak traction, drainability and breathability on this journey down the Colorado.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Water Planet producer/director Greg MacGillivray, and other river trip members will conduct a brief press conference at the trip launch site at Lee’s Ferry at 9 a.m. on Sept 13. The launch at Lee’s Ferry is located at the end of Lee’s Ferry Road off Highway 89A, 45 miles southwest of Page, Arizona, approximately two hours from Flagstaff.
