Teva Returns To The Grand Canyon To Tell An Important Message Of Water Conservation
Goleta, CA (March 12, 2008) –Teva® (a division of Deckers Outdoor Corporation NASDAQ: DECK) journeys back to the Colorado River to tell the world about the importance of conserving our earth’s waterways with the premiere of the new MacGillivray Freeman Films IMAX® movie, Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk.
Teva is an authentic icon in the Outdoor Industry. Founded in the early 1980’s by a Colorado River guide, Teva pioneered the sport sandal category. For over 20 years on the river, in the canyons, and across the trails of the great outdoors, athletes and enthusiasts have traveled the globe comfortably and confidently in Teva footwear.
Providing a positive contribution to the world in which they play is at the core of everything Teva stands for. The Teva name itself is a Hebrew word meaning “nature” and the hand logo is the Hopi symbol for “Friendship” and “Water”. For a brand rooted in the outdoors and with a strong commitment to the earth’s waterways, saying yes to the IMAX project wasn’t hard.
“It is the Grand Canyon where our founder got the inspiration to build the first sport sandal, an icon in the outdoor world. It’s only fitting that we return to the Grand Canyon, globally recognized as one of the earth’s seven wonders, to be a part of this film and support the awareness of water conservation.†Says Jill Ireland, Teva Marketing Director “For us as a brand to be associated to that, in an authentic way, is unique and special.â€
Being more of a partner than a traditional sponsor of the film, Teva joined the MacGillivray Freeman team on their journey down the Grand Canyon. While on the river, Teva shot their 2007/08 global advertising campaign and collected valuable product feedback from guides and film crew. Moving into 2008, Teva will introduce two new guide products that were designed on the river while shooting Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk.
Continuing the spirit of partnership that was started on the river, in 2008 Teva partners with O.A.R.S. on commercial product testing trips (http://www.oars.com/teva/) and hosts river clean-ups across the country with Waterkeeper Alliance. ““24 years ago, the Teva Brand was born in the Grand Canyon. That heritage obligates us to fight for the health of our earth’s waterways. We are proud to partner with McGillivray Freeman Films and the Waterkeeper Alliance in sending this important message of water conservation.â€
†says Pete Worley, Teva Brand President
