Thanks to Coleman, CDTA Volunteers Enjoy Great Meals on the Trail

(Outdoor Retailer Show, Salt Lake City) You can imagine what challenging, dusty work building the Continental Divide Trail can be. Now imagine coming back to base camp and enjoying a tasty meal prepared just for you! Thanks to the support of The Coleman Company, Inc., many Continental Divide Trail Alliance volunteers dine al fresco on the Divide while helping to build America’s highest, longest, wildest backcountry trail.

Coleman, a world leader in the outdoor recreation market and one of CDTA’s first supporters, continues to provide significant financial support for our efforts to complete the CDT and has been especially supportive of the Crew Chef program that last year provided 1,683 meals for volunteers, utilizing Coleman® products to prepare food and make base camp feel more like home.

Our Crew Chefs also are volunteers. Coleman’s support not only helps us feed our troops but also helps provide another outlet for people who want to work on the Trail while practicing their backcountry culinary skills.

According to CDTA’s Bruce Ward, “The name ‘Coleman’ has been synonymous with the outdoors forever; we are honored by their desire to partner with us to complete the `King of Trails.’”

In 2006 alone, CDTA volunteers from across the country will work on over 50 projects and we anticipate over 1,000 participants will contribute over $400,000 in volunteer labor.

The Continental Divide Trail was established by Congress as a National Scenic Trail in 1978. When complete, the “King of Trails” will be the most significant trail system in the world. Stretching 3,100 miles along the backbone of America from Canada to Mexico, it accesses some of the most wild and scenic places left in the world while conserving the environment and promoting personal well being.

Since 1995, the Continental Divide Trail Alliance has played a central role toward the completion, management and protection of the Trail and it is the voice for unity in the diverse story of the Trail.
