Team D Paddlers Andrew Holcombe and Rush Sturges placed second and third respectively in the new Dagger Agent playboat at the U.S. Freestyle Kayak Team Trials last week on the Garberator wave on the Ottawa River in Canada. Teammate Dustin Urban finished fourth paddling a Dagger Kingpin Icon 6.2. Based on their results, Holcombe, Sturges, and Urban each qualified for the 2007 World Freestyle Kayak Championships in the men’s K-1 category.
“The Agent 6.4 is my weapon of choice, it is so solid,†said Holcombe of Asheville, NC. “The best thing about the Agent is that it releases quickly and smoothly, which was essential on a wave like the Garberator.â€
The full roster of K-1 men representing the United States at World Championships next spring is Team Trials Champion and reigning World Champion Eric Jackson, of Rock Island, TN, Andrew Holcombe, Rush Sturges of Forks of Salmon, CA, Dustin Urban of Buena Vista, CO, Marlow Long of Highlands, NC, and Jay Kincaid of Reno, NV. Canada will host the 2007 World Freestyle Kayak Championships April 29 to May 5, 2007, on the Ottawa River.
“It was so cool, to pull a 2-yearold design out of the quiver and still qualify for Worlds. It just shows the depth of the Dagger designs,†said Urban. “However, the Agent is definitely taking it to the next level. I can’t wait to get mine.â€
“We are fired up to have half of the men’s team paddling our boats and excited to have them killing it in the new Agent,†said Ken “Hobie†Hoeve, Dagger field marketing manager. “There is a lot of experience and depth on this team and we look forward to seeing a lot of hardware come back with Team USA next spring.â€
The Dagger Agent 6.0, 6.2, and 6.4 will be available at whitewater shops later this fall and next spring.
