The Conservation Alliance Announces 12 New Members

Growth continues as The Conservation Alliance celebrates 25 years

Bend, Ore., Sept. 30, 2014 – Twelve outdoor industry companies have joined The Conservation Alliance since February 2014. This growth strengthens the organization as conservation opportunities flourish throughout North America.

The new members are: Bergans of Norway, Elevation Outdoors Magazine, Goal Zero, GU Energy Labs, Hoka One One, Outdoor Specialty Group, LLC, Outpac Designs, Inc., Peter McBride Production, Prism Kite, RootsRated, Unicorn Recreation Products Co. Ltd., and Wildland Trekking Company.

This year, The Conservation Alliance celebrates its 25th anniversary and is excited to welcome these companies to a list of more than 191 outdoor industry members. Each member company pays annual dues into a central fund, and the Alliance donates those funds to grassroots conservation organizations. The Alliance plans to donate $1.55 million in 2014, an increase of $150,000 from 2013.

“We continue to attract great companies, large and small, to our organization,” said John Sterling, Conservation Alliance Executive Director. “We take this growth as a sign that brands value our model of companies working together to protect the wild places so important to their customers.”

The new members include a wide range of outdoor industry stakeholders – from retailers, to manufacturers of outdoor apparel and equipment, outfitters, online and print publications, photographers and consultants. 

“We are proud to maintain such a diverse membership of companies that comprise the outdoor industry,” said Sterling. “Conservation is one issue that most brands in the industry agree is a top priority. Together, we are working to protect our last wild places.”

About the Conservation Alliance:
The Conservation Alliance is an organization of outdoor businesses whose collective contributions support grassroots environmental organizations and their efforts to protect wild places where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. Alliance funds have played a key role in protecting rivers, trails, wildlands and climbing areas.

Membership in the Alliance is open to companies representing all aspects of the outdoor industry, including manufacturers, retailers, publishers, mills and sales representatives. The result is a diverse group of businesses whose livelihood depends on protecting our natural environment.

Since its inception in 1989, the Alliance has contributed more than $13 million to grassroots conservation groups throughout North America. The results of our funding have been remarkable. Alliance funding has helped save more than 42 million acres of wildlands; protect 2,825 miles of rivers; stop or remove 26 dams; designate five marine reserves; and purchase nine climbing areas.
