The Conservation Alliance Visits New Hampshire for Backyard Collective

Peterborough, New Hampshire (September 9, 2011) — The Conservation Alliance is excited to be headed to the East Coast for their next Backyard Collective. On Tuesday, September 13th, The Conservation Alliance and employees from Eastern Mountain Sports, The Timberland Company, Briggs & Riley Travelware, EarthTec, NEMO Equipment, Jetboil, and Polartec will gather at Eastern Mountain Sports Base Camp to kick off a day of environmental service in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire.

“In celebration of conservation and community, Eastern Mountain Sports is excited to be partnering with our New Hampshire based partners and peers for a day of stewardship hosted by The Conservation Alliance,” says Ted Manning, Executive Vice President at Eastern Mountain Sports. “We are thrilled to be getting our hands dirty in our own backyard and working with a Conservation Alliance grantee, The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests; doing work to protect the forests of and around Mount Monadnock, one of the most frequently climbed mountains in the world.”

The Conservation Alliance has partnered with local environmental organizations to help organize a variety of stewardship projects. The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, New Hampshire Audubon, Harris Center for Conservation Education, and New Hampshire State Parks have all identified environmental projects in the New Hampshire region for BYC volunteers. Volunteers will work on a variety of different projects ranging from park beatification, invasive plant species removal, and trail maintenance. These efforts will take place from 9 a.m –1 p.m on September 13th.

At the end of the work day, volunteers will gather at Eastern Mountain Sports Base Camp for a BBQ and volunteer celebration. The event will also feature a volunteer fair at which Conservation Alliance grantees and local environmental organizations will share information on their current conservation initiatives.

The Conservation Alliance is a non-profit organization whose members consist of outdoor industry companies that fund conservation organizations working to proctect North America’s last wild spaces. The Backyard Collective Program offers on-the-ground opportunities for outdoor industry employees to get their hands dirty in the name of conservation and connect with Conservation Alliance grantees. Each participating member company provides sponsorship dollars to the Backyard Collective event and encourages employees to volunteer time to clean-up and restore trails in their backyard.
