The North Face, the global leader in outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear, is announcing the addition of Zach Miller and Andrew Miller to their endurance running team, joining an already extremely accomplished roster with the likes of Rory Bosio, Dean Karnazes and Rob Krar.
Since 1966, The North Face has been challenging athletes to push their boundaries and commit to a life of exploration. These athletes stand at the forefront of the companies pledge to “Never Stop Exploring”. The North Face invites these athletes to challenge design concepts and create new definitions for what is possible in sportswear.
Zach Miller, of Pikes Peak, Color. has spent his career training in unusual circumstances. Originally from Lancaster, Penn., he spent more than a year working and training on a cruise ship. Most recently, he works, lives and trains at Barr Camp, an off-the-grid log cabin half way up Pikes Peak Mountain in Colorado. Starting off as a soccer player, he transitioned to running during high school and eventually landed on the DIII Cross Country and Track teams at Rochester Institute of Technology while earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
One of the top ultrarunners in competition today, Miller holds a long list of accomplishments with first place finishes at The North Face Endurance Challenge 50 Mile Championship in 2015 and 2016, 2016 Madeira Island Ultra Trail 115km, CCC 101km – making him the first American male to win any race in the UTMB race series, 2014 Lake Sonoma 50 Mile and 2013 JFK 50 Mile. In addition, during the 2014 race series Miller was a member of the US Mountain Running Team, Long Distance Mountain Running Team and the Gold Medal winning US 100km Road World Championship Team.
“I’ve always had a thirst for adventure. This mindset has taken me to six of the seven continents, the biggest and most challenging races in the World, and a simple off-the-grid lifestyle in a nearly 100-year-old log cabin on Colorado’s Pikes Peak. Looking to the future, I am very excited to continue living this philosophy as part of The North Face’s Global Athlete Team. A company routed in exploration, they strive to equip people to push their limits and feed their souls. I hope to embody this spirit – dig deep, go big and attempt things that I’m not sure I can do. Win or lose, succeed or fail, it is my hope that this spirit of testing my limits will be an embodiment of The North Face commitment to inspire people to live a life of exploration. I’m ready to #neverstopexploring.” – Zach Miller
Andrew Miller made a name for himself in 2016 with a first-place finish at Western States 100, naming him the youngest runner to win the race. The 19-year-old of Flagstaff, Ariz. may be young, but runs like a veteran with multiple 100 mile races painting his resume. Growing up on the trails of Oregon, Miller started running ultramarathons alongside his mother in 2014. Since then, he has completed impressive first place finishes at 2016 Western States 100, 2016 and 2015 Georgia Death Race, 2015 Big Horn 100M, and 2015 Orca’s Island 50K. Looking forward to 2017, he plans to hit trails even stronger with appearances in Western States 100 and UTMB.
