ALAMEDA, Calif.– December 4, 2016 – More than 4,500 runners were graced with perfect weather at The North Face Endurance Challenge Championships held in the Marin Headlands of the San Francisco Bay Area this past weekend. In its tenth year, the race boasts a $30,000 prize purse for top finishers, magnificent views of the Pacific coastline and an incredible international field of elite runners.

The competition ran deep this year for the GORE-TEX 50 Mile Challenge with many veteran athletes, as well as new comers bursting onto the scene in 2016 to change the playing field and challenge the elite field to battle even harder.

For the men’s side, Zach Miller and Hayden Hawks fought neck and neck throughout the entire course. In the end, Zach Miller of Pikes Peak, Colo. finished on top and posted the first sub six-hour time in the championships with a time of 5:56:03.

Following close behind Miller was Hayden Hawks of Saint George, Utah with a time of 5:58:07 and David Laney from Ashland, Ore. finishing third with a time of 6:15:16.

On the women’s side Sweden’s Ida Nilsson was the first female finisher with a time of 6:59:49, followed by last years winner Magdalena Boulet of Oakland, Calif. with a time of 7:06:12, and New Zealand’s Ruth Croft with a time of 7:20:45.

Registration is already open for the first two The North Face Endurance Challenge Series events in 2017 in Washington D.C. (April 29-30) and New York (May 13-14). All races feature 50-Mile, 50k, Marathon, Marathon Relay, Half Marathon, 10k and 5k distances. All other events in the series will open in January, 2017.
