The North Face Venture Jacket Reduces Synthetic Components in Membrane

Iconic outdoor rain jacket is redesigned with the environment in mind

The North Face, the world’s premier supplier of authentic, innovative and technically advanced outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear, today announced the redesign of The North Face Venture Jacket. The classic all-activity rain jacket now incorporates castor oil into its membrane as an alternative to petroleum-derived materials.

Introduced in 2002, the highly technical best-selling rainwear piece is engineered to withstand wilderness storms and everyday use. Beginning Spring 2011, the Venture is crafted of HyVent DT EC, using natural castor oil from beans, reducing the use of synthetic components in the waterproof membrane by 50 percent compared with conventional fabric waterproof membranes. Each new Venture Jacket will contain 28 grams of standard waterproof coating, 50 percent of which will be castor oil based. This will eliminate more than 50,000 lbs of petroleum-based materials in 2011.

The waterproof, breathable Venture Jacket features sealed seams and attached, adjustable hood. The brushed chin guard lining eliminates chaffing, and the pit zip vents allow for temperature regulation. The Venture is available in both Men’s and Women’s styles. The new HyVent DT EC may also be found in the Venture Side Zip Pant, Venture Pant, and Venture Parka.
