Buyers Attend The Running Event to Learn From Nation’s Top Retailing Experts – 

Store Visit, Training Camps, Expert Presentations and Master Class Planned for

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2016) – It’s often entertaining to see rows upon rows of new products at a trade show such as The Running Event (TRE), Nov. 29 to Dec. 2, 2016 in Orlando. There are blinking lights offering enhanced safety to nighttime runners; footwear with soles that mimic automobile tires; and untold numbers of wearable fitness trackers.

But selecting a hot new running accessory for a specialty store is only part of the reason to attend a trade show. Learning how to run a profitable business is equally as important, according to Mark Sullivan, president of Formula4 Media, TRE show organizer.

This year TRE is offering the largest educational program in its 11-year history.

For early arrivals, there’s a Nov 28 reception at Orlando’s Track Shack, one of the most iconic running specialty stores in the U.S. operated by co-owners Jon and Betsy Hughes, members of the Running Specialty Hall of Fame.

Learn how they organize races, have a foundation that promotes health and fitness with an emphasis on youth programs, and support Girls on the Run, a transformational learning program for 8 to 13 year-old girls.

Chicago attorney Gene Zelek will examine on Nov. 29, “The Myths and Misconceptions Around Resale Price and MAP Policies: What Manufacturers and Retailers Need to Know.” He is a partner in the Chicago law firm of Freeborn & Peters LLP and co-chairs its Antitrust and Trade Regulation Group. Zelek is a specialist in marketing law, with an emphasis on pricing and channel management, including lawful resale price setting, and differentiated pricing and distribution and retail relationships for a wide variety of well-known companies in diverse consumer and industrial industries.

On Nov. 29, Jim Dion returns to TRE to present “How To Improve Your In-Store Execution.” He will explain how to create an action plan to execute new ideas that buyers acquire at TRE. Dion is one of the most highly regarded retail speakers and consultants in the U.S. and has 10 years experience working with running specialty stores.

Dion will also moderate a separate TRE Master Class for owners of larger stores (more than $3 million in annual sales), on Nov. 29.

Retail design expert Holly Wiese presents on Nov. 29, “The Future of Retail and What It Means for Running Stores.” Wiese, a “retail scientist” from 3 Dots Design, Boulder, Colo., has over 15 years experience in the field of visual merchandising and retail design for numerous industries including cycling, running, active apparel, and specialty retail.

On Nov. 30, TRE Training Camp features half-day training classes for store managers and associates covering store operations, customer outreach and marketing and

inventory management. The three-hour class will be led by Tom Griffen, a former running store owner who is now a retail consultant.

David Meerman Scott is speaking on Nov. 30 about “The New Rules of Marketing and PR.” The author of “Marketing Lessons from the Grateful Dead” (Wiley, 2010), he believes there are four main ways to generate attention.

“You can BUY attention (this is called advertising); you can BEG for attention (this is called Public Relations); you can BUG people one at a time to get attention (this is called sales), or you can EARN attention online by creating great information that your buyers want to consume such as YouTube videos, blogs, Twitter feeds, photographs, charts, graphs, and ebooks,” according to Scott.

Recently added to the line-up on Nov. 30 is Gregg Frederick, owner of Orlando’s G3 Development Group, Inc., who will review the latest trends in retail, particularly in regards to how online retailers attract and retain customers.

Nov. 30 will also feature breakout sessions on a variety of topics before the trade show opens that afternoon at 4 p.m. The trade show reopens Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Dec. 2 from 8:30 to 1 p.m.
