The Shed Offers New Revenue Channel to Outdoor Equipment Manufacturers

Rental Model Addresses Sharing Economy Impact on Buying Economy

RICHMOND, Va., March 17, 2020 – The Shed, the first full-service consumer goods rental marketplace, announced today that The Shed Denver is actively building partnerships with outdoor industry manufacturers, retailers, entrepreneurs and even other rental businesses to help them leverage the rapidly growing sharing economy.

At no cost, a business may stock its inventory in The Shed’s distribution centers. The Shed then markets that inventory for rental via its one-click ordering platform and delivers the item to the consumer. The manufacturer earns 50% of the rental income every time their product rents. Pricing is optimized based on market demand and inventory availability to maximize success.

“With the growth of the sharing economy, the buying economy is shrinking and manufacturers are looking to capitalize on the rental market,” said Daniel Perrone, co-founder and CEO of The Shed. “We’ve built a platform and model to make it happen.”

“We’ve heard specifically from the outdoor industry about the need to get into rentals,” said B Gottwald, president of The Shed Denver. “These manufacturers are thrilled to hear that we can get them in the rental marketplace quickly, and at no cost.”

Within two months of starting its inventory acquisition, The Shed Denver has inked several deals with outdoor companies, including national brands. The products secured through these companies include high-end coolers, sleeping bags, backpacks, kayaks, paddleboards and more. Other outdoor gear The Shed will stock includes car toppers/racks, fishing equipment, bikes and travel bags. It is not renting ski, boarding or other gear that requires sizing.

“In addition to large companies, startups are able to use The Shed as a no-cost way to go to market. Gottwald said. “It is exciting that we get to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses.”

The Shed Denver is the second location for The Shed, headquartered in Richmond, Va. The Shed chose Denver as its second market based on the population’s propensity for outdoors and sustainability, along with the overall density. “Denver has one of the fastest growing apartment dweller populations and among those people, many have a great passion for the outdoors but limited space to store equipment,” Gottwald explained.

The Shed’s other product lines will include tools, automotive, yard and garden, music, industrial solutions, safety equipment and more. It also does full-service party/event rentals ranging from backyard barbecues to school carnivals to black-tie weddings.

The Shed expects to open for rentals in the early spring. For more information, email or visit
