Seattle, U.S.A. – Cascade Designs, Inc., the Seattle-based industry leader in the design and manufacture of premier outdoor equipment, today announced the new and updated products in the 2010 Therm-a-Rest Camp and Comfort series for car, family and base camp activities. The new LuxuryMap mattress design uses digital pressure mapping technology to alleviate pressure points and provide a more supportive sleep surface. Also new to the new series is the side-loading Camp n’ Carryâ„¢ Sack, a premium stuff sack designed for fast packing and easy toting of Therm-a-Rest mattresses and sleep systems, while the popular Therm-a-Rest DreamTimeâ„¢ and BaseCampâ„¢ mattress designs and materials are updated for superior comfort and performance.
The new three-inch-thick, self-inflating LuxuryMap mattress delivers an evenly supportive, comfortable sleep surface thanks to the use of advanced, pressure-sensitive mapping technology and innovative die-cut foams. Used extensively in medical and industrial applications, digital pressure mapping technology analyzes a range of body types in varying sleep positions in order to identify common areas of high and low pressure. A more even and comfortable sleep surface is created in the LuxuryMap mattress by varying the density of die-cut perforations in the mattress foam—more perforations in high-pressure areas soften and reduce hotspots while fewer perforations in low-pressure areas provide support where it’s needed most. The result is a more supportive sleep surface, less tossing and turning and the priceless experience of a restful night outdoors. The same technology is also used in the new Therm-a-Rest Campâ„¢ Seat, a square, self-inflating seat cushion for the ground.
“Digital pressure mapping technology has long been used in the wheelchair seating and positioning products manufactured in our Seattle factory for the medical division of Cascade Designs†said Doug Jacot, Division Director, Therm-a-Rest. “Making our own products gave us the unique ability to combine that technology with our decades of experience manufacturing comfortable mattresses with high quality materials for the outdoors, resulting in a truly unique camping mattress that you just won’t find anywhere else in the outdoor industry.â€
Also new to the Camp and Comfort series is the wide, side-loading Camp n’ Carry Sack for easy packing and transporting of Them-a-Rest mattresses and sleep systems when moving camp. The Camp n’ Carry Sack features a generous full length cover flap with adjustable compression closures to accommodate a wide range of mattresses and sleep system components.
In addition to the new products, the decadent Therm-a-Rest DreamTime™ mattress and the popular BaseCamp™ mattresses have been redesigned to optimize comfort and performance. The DreamTime mattress now offers three and a half inches of support and pillow-top comfort, featuring a new layer of contour-hugging Isotonic® memory foam, a self-inflating mattress and a removable, machine-washable, ultrasoft microfiber cover encasing the two. The BaseCamp mattress is updated with an expanded foam for a lighter and more compact luxury sleeping pad. The new foam provides exceptional comfort and warmth, while allowing a reduction of material by up to twenty-five percent. The ultra-soft Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow is also available in four new colors and prints.
The new Therm-a-Rest Camp and Comfort series products will be available in stores January 2010.
