Therm-a-Rest®, the Seattle-based leader in premium outdoor comfort, announced it has won two Outdoor Trade Show Novel Awards for 2014 products, as selected by UK retailers and industry experts. The Therm-a-Rest Women’s Mira™ 15°F / -9°Cdown sleeping bag was named Best Sleeping Bag and the NeoAir™ Venture™ WV mattress won the top spot in the Camping Accessory category. First determined as finalists in their respective categories by popular vote of UK-based retailers, both products were named winners by a panel of outdoor industry experts after careful assessment.
The Therm-a-RestWomen’s Mira 15°F / -9°Cdown sleeping bag was selected as Best Sleeping Bag for its innovation, workmanship, choice of materials, functionality, ergonomics and commercial viability.
Therm-a-Rest’s Synergy-Link™ mattress connectors and innovative ThermaCapture™ technology sets this women’s bag apart. The Synergy-Link Connectors—two patent-pending bands that fit mattresses up to 25 inches (63 cm) wide—keep the bag and mattress securely aligned to eliminate problems with sliding, twisting, and cold spots. ThermaCapture is a proprietary reflective lining that captures the body’s radiant heat, amplifying warmth without the weight and bulk of additional conventional insulations. A women-specific Efficient Comfort Fit provides extra room in the torso and hips to allow greater freedom of movement—particularly when side sleeping—and a trapezoidal foot box with Toe-Asis™ foot warmer pocket allows women to rapidly warm cold feet. The result: A bag that’s tuned to match the female body’s natural resting position, stays securely attached to the pad, and delivers optimal comfort and warmth.
The Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Venture WV mattress was selected as Best Camping Accessory for its innovation, choice of materials, functionality and commercial viability. New to Therm-a-Rest’s popular NeoAir mattress line, the NeoAir Venture WV mattress offers targeted quality and performance for entry-level and recreational backcountry users at a competitive price of only £60.00 for size medium or regular. This is made possible by Therm-a-Rest’s new WaveCore™ technology, which uses a single layer of horizontal wave baffles to slow heat loss and double the warmth of a non-insulated air mattress. The WaveCore design maintains the light weight and low price point of an uninsulated air mattress while delivering the unique level of warmth, stability and reliable comfort that’s expected from Therm-a-Rest NeoAir mattresses.
“We’re really proud of the sleep solutions we’ve come up with through extensive design, research and testing,” said Doug Jacot, vice president of Therm-a-Rest. “It feels really good to know that together with our retailers, we’re making it possible for even more people to have a great experience sleeping outdoors, and that they’ll be inspired to enjoy it more often.”
The esteemed panel of judges for the 2013 Outdoor Trade Show Novel Awards included: outdoor writer, photographer and TGO magazine gear tester Chris Townsend; Adventure Travel magazineEditor Rosie Fuller; The Camping & Caravanning Club Director General Robert Louden; Outdoor Industries Association Chief Executive Andrew Denton; and Nick Hallissey, Deputy Editor of Country Walking magazine. A total of eight products received an award, selected from a list of 21 finalists determined by online vote of the 90 products originally submitted.
The Therm-a-Rest Women’s Mira 15°F/-9°C down sleeping bag will be available in retail stores in January 2014, along with the Adara™ Women’s 0°F / -18°C down bag, and the Capella™ Women’s 20°F / – 7°C EraLoft™ synthetic bag. The NeoAir™ Venture™ WV mattress will join Therm-a-Rest’s line of self-inflating, closed-cell foam, and NeoAir insulated air mattress in retail stores January 2014.
