Denver, Colo. – Big City Mountaineers (BCM), the non-profit that changes the lives of under-served urban youth through wilderness mentoring expeditions, gratefully accepts renewed support from The Timberland Company. A donation of 350 pairs of Timberland® hiking boots and a substantial cash gift will directly benefit the teens BCM serves, helping to give them access to the outdoors and provide a comfortable experience on BCM’s trips.
“The Timberland team is so dedicated to BCM‘s kids, and we are so inspired by this commitment to under-resourced urban youth,” says Lisa Mattis, BCM’s Executive Director. “For many of our kids, Timberland® boots are quite literally the first new footwear of their young lives and the journey taking place in these boots is life-changing. We can’t express our thanks enough.”
“We’ve long admired and respected the work Big City Mountaineers does, and are excited to renew our partnership with them as they work to bring new outdoor experiences to urban-based teens,” says Cassie Heppner, Senior Marketing Manager for Timberland North America. “We all know the power the outdoors holds, whether it’s instilling confidence and perseverance or simply providing a peaceful backdrop for reflection and discovery. Not to mention the sheer enjoyment it brings. The more young people we can introduce to the outdoors, the better.”
BCM will deliver 42 wilderness expeditions this summer, providing profound outdoor experiences to urban youth from the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Portland, Denver, Colorado Springs, Minneapolis and Chicago. Teams of adult volunteers will accompany each young person in a one-to-one ratio, encouraging them to discover their potential in an unfamiliar environment.
