SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (February 10, 2016) – Timbuk2, the original San Francisco-based creator of the messenger bag and pioneer of made-in-America customization, today proudly announces that one of their very own has been added to the SF Bicycle Coalition Board of Directors. Marketing Manager Vanessa Christie will step into the role with the experience of a career rife with marketing and communications expertise.
Vanessa has been the Marketing Manager at Timbuk2 since June 2012. During her time in this position, and in previous marketing roles, she has been instrumental in creating brand vision, strategy, and marketing plans on the local, regional, and global level. She found a perfect home in Timbuk2, whose company origins are mired in bike messengers and the cycling community. Utilizing her creative, high energy, and resourceful marketing acumen, she has helped facilitate the growth of Timbuk2 from its bike messenger origins into a global operation with eight retail stores in the U.S. and Canada, and seven more in Europe and Asia. At Timbuk2, she specializes in project management, branding, marketing strategy development and execution, drive-to-retail marketing (including window visuals), and community engagement. Vanessa’s enthusiasm for cycling, both in her own daily life and in the community as a whole, led her to be an active member-volunteer of the Women Bike SF program as well, further cementing her sponsorship for female cyclists and devoted involvement with the organization prior to this post.
Vanessa is dedicated to introducing more people – especially women – to life on a bicycle. In addition to her personal use and reverence of the bicycle, and her employment at a company that is notoriously entwined with the community, she is co-captain of her SAFE Neighborhood Watch Group, community leader with friends of the Urban Forest, and a pervasive civic activist for errant projects around her neighborhood. She truly capitalizes upon any opportunity to get involved. An SF Bicycle Coalition member since moving to San Francisco in 2010, she rides for weekend adventures, races cyclocross for Vive La Tarte, is a dedicated daily commuter, and rang in 2016 on an independent bike tour in Cuba. As an advocate for an active, healthy life style filled with cycling, organic foods, outdoor recreation, and engaged communities, Vanessa acts as a true representative for what makes this city so great.

As a brand, they continually find opportunities to show their support for the cycling community, as in this past December when they participated in the World Bicycle Relief’s Giving Tuesday event, which sought to empower mobility for students in Africa. By donating a portion of their e-commerce sales that day, they brought the organization $7,500 and 51 bikes closer to a goal of 800.
