Timex, a leader in outdoor and sports performance timepieces, today announced its continued support and title sponsorship of the 2010 Timex Multisport Team.
Comprised of 50 elite amateur and professional athletes, the 2010 Timex Multisport Team is a dynamic group of well-rounded and committed competitors from the U.S., Australia, India, Ukraine, Mexico, Czech Republic, Estonia, Canada and the United Kingdom, who serve as brand ambassadors for Timex and associated sponsors at hundreds of events around the world.
The 2010 season will be highlighted by several off-season enhancements. The team will utilize cycling equipment and support from new partners Shimano, Orbea and Shimano PRO, and will sport new uniforms by apparel sponsor SUGOI. Additionally, the team’s preseason training camp – traditionally held in Carlsbad, CA following Ironman 70.3 Oceanside event – took place at the Timex Performance Center in East Rutherford, NJ, and featured a rigorous program of cutting-edge performance evaluation and analysis as part of Timex’s collaboration with the New York Giants on training solutions.
“Building on the momentum of 2009, as well as these exciting off-season initiatives, the Timex Multisport Team is poised to make 2010 its best year ever,†said Keith Meyer, Event Marketing and Sponsorship Manager at Timex. “The preseason performance analysis program at the Timex Performance Center will allow us to collaborate even further with each member of the team on personalized, state-of-the-art training solutions.â€
The 2010 training camp program, which took place Thursday, February 18 through Sunday, February 21 at the Timex Performance Center, afforded each athlete the opportunity to glean in-depth knowledge about his or her key individual performance indicators, and collaborate with a team of medical and coaching experts on training plans for the 2010 season. The activities included biomechanical testing analysis, VO2 Max testing by Targetraining of Westport, CT, and MELT Method training, under the direction of a collaborative team of sports medicine and training experts led by New York Giants VP of Medical Services Ronnie Barnes and Polly de Mille of the Hospital for Special Surgery.
Timex Multisport Team member Alex McDonald, MD, a professional triathlete and medical doctor from Durham, NC, participated in a unique dual role – as both a participating athlete and member of the medical counsel led by Barnes. “The wonderful thing about this program is that it’s a two-way street,†McDonald said. “As triathletes, we will realize enormous benefit learning about our current performance metrics and our bodies’ tendencies. As elite athletic brands, both Timex and the New York Giants will benefit from studying our performance and applying across all of their training and testing initiatives.â€
The Timex Multisport Team will compete in a variety of major endurance events in 2010, including Ironman and Xterra races, the Ford Ironman World Championship and ING New York City Marathon.
For the first time in team history, an alpine athlete will join the field of outstanding Timex Multisport athletes, with the addition of freeskier Corey Felton of Jackson, WY.
