Emeryville, Calif, December 19, 2018 — Title Nine, arguably the largest female-owned independent retailer in North America, today announced a partnership with OutsidePR to serve as its public relations agency of record.
The Emeryville sports and athletic-wear retailer celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2019, and the addition of OutsidePR is part of a concerted effort from the brand to move the women’s movement forward. The addition of outside public relations counsel follows on the heels of Title Nine securing the services of another Marin County-based marketing agency: Kindred. Kindred is a women-run agency that has been leading brand initiatives for Title Nine since January 2018 and was instrumental in advocating for a PR firm to round out Title Nine’s marketing scope.
Missy Park, founder of Title Nine, said, “In every aspect of our business, Title Nine works to inspire women to risk, to own, and to lead. We’re elated to work with the folks at OutsidePR, to help amplify our voice around the issues that matter to both us and our customers.”
Jess Smith, vice president at OutsidePR, said, “Title Nine represents everything that’s good about retail and in the outdoor communities. They’re passionate about not only product, but about advocating for women, and in particular for developing women leaders and women-owned brands. We’re thrilled to be working with them.”
Title Nine was founded in 1989 out of Park’s garage in Berkeley, CA to address the unmet needs of female athletes and adventurers. Today, Title 9 employs 350 people and sources product from all over the world. It primarily sells through the direct to consumer channel, but also has 19 stores across 9 states. Selling a range of top brands curated for both fashion and social conscience, the brand has increasingly devoted much of its online and retail collections on its own brand creations ranging from swimwear to performance dresses. The company advocates forcefully for women’s issues, including creating Movers & Makers, the yearly event that empowers small women-owned brands to find a voice — and a sales platform.
OutsidePR & Sportsmarketing was founded in 1995 and is now one of the largest consulting firms in the outdoor industry. The agency’s 19 client brands span the range from billion dollar brands such as Red Bull and Epsn to small, core brands including Injinji and Mammut.
