Today Show Highlights StreetStrider

As part of their New Year’s resolution to get more fit (and to give up wine), Today Show hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb took their highly-rated morning show outdoors today, onto the streets of New York.

Waiting for them as they launched their fitness year were two StreetStriders, the mobile elliptical trainer on wheels.

The hosts were perceptive in turning to the StreetStrider for maximal calorie burn: moderate to vigorous use of the three-wheeled elliptical burns up to 1,000 per hour. For the young Fresno-based company, it was a dramatic launch to what promises to be a dynamic year of growth.

“National media exposure like you get on the Today Show is a dream for any fitness or outdoor brand,” said Street Strider’s director of marketing, Matthew Kemper. “Kathie Lee and Hoda were great to work with, and we have already experienced a significant bump in our web traffic due to the appearance.”

As displayed in the video, the two hosts were able to hop on the machines and ride them immediately, and safely. This is due largely to the stable nature of the three-wheeled design, as well as the stability of the riding platform in general and the intuitive “lean to steer” guidance.

The hosts also rode a Fitdesk and visited Equinox Gym, completing their entire hour-long segment in-motion.

The StreetStrider, which is unlike any other exercise equipment on the market and which can also be used indoors as a stationary elliptical machine, offers the combined benefits of jogging, skiing and cycling. They generate a full-body workout, high calorie burn rate, adjustable resistance and low joint impact – without the physical stress of other exercises.

The StreetStrider was invented and patented by David Kraus, PhD. After riding his bicycle to work for more than 20 years and regularly working out on a stationary elliptical cross-trainer, Kraus was inspired to combine the two into an efficient, fun outdoor machine. After years of development, the first StreetStrider models were introduced in 2009. StreetStrider offers multiple models for adults as well as a children’s model, plus branded accessories for indoor use, storage and car transportation.

The Today Show isn’t the first time the company, which sells both through dealer networks and direct-to-consumer, has been on television. Previously, StreetStrider has been featured on The Biggest Loser, Modern Family and the Dr. Oz Show. The Today Show, which debuted on NBC in 1952, remains one of the most popular shows on television today, attracting an average of ten million viewers per day.
