Saturday, June 7, 2014, marks American Hiking Society’s 22nd annual celebration of National Trails Day®, which is America’s largest trail and outdoor celebration–a day devoted to appreciating America’s trails and the hard-working individuals who build and maintain them. In honor of this day, thousands of public events will be hosted nationwide and hundreds of thousands of trail enthusiasts will be outside as they hike, pedal, and paddle through some of America’s most beautiful areas. National Trails Day® activities will be available in all 50 states and also the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Canada.

National Trails Day encourages all Americans to connect with local outdoor clubs, businesses, community groups, and parks and recreation departments as well as federal land managing agencies to experience, appreciate, and share the natural places we cherish. “In 1993, American Hiking built National Trails Day around the idea that for one day each year we should come together outdoors, enjoy healthy recreation and give back to our favorite trails. Since then, people from all walks of life have been coming out in increasing numbers on National Trails Day to celebrate our trails and the great outdoors,” said Gregory Miller, American Hiking Society President.

National Trails Day is made possible by the generous support of Corporate Sponsors–Adventure Medical Kits, Columbia, Gregory Packs, Tilley Endurables, and The North Face, as well as Supporters – America’s State Parks, American Park Network, Backpacker magazine, Boy Scouts of America, REI, and Student Conservation Association, and Federal Partners – the Bureau of Land Management, Federal Highway Administration, National Park Service, USDA Forest Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
