TRUE Communications Builds Senior Management Team To Support Rapid Growth
Firm appoints award-winning PR executive Meredith Obendorfer as Senior Vice President to support significant momentum with technology and consumer electronics companies
January 24, 2017 — Sausalito, Calif — TRUE Communications today announced the appointment of Meredith Obendorfer to the role of Senior Vice President. Obendorfer brings to TRUE extensive experience in strategic communications, with deep expertise in public relations for both technology-focused B2B and B2C companies. Coupled with her personal passion for adventure sports, Obendorfer is a natural fit for TRUE’s stronghold with active outdoor brands and the firm’s plans to continue making inroads into the tech industry.
In 2016, TRUE grew more than 50 percent in billings and saw a 30 percent increase in client accounts. It also managed high visibility public relations and digital communications efforts including Ember Technologies, a celebrity-backed start-up that saw unparalleled success launching its mug through Starbucks’ retail stores; BSX Technologies, of which TRUE drove its Kickstarter campaign for a wearable hydration monitor to $1.1 million; and Intel, which relies on TRUE for strategic communications surrounding their Recon Instruments business.
Reporting to TRUE Founder and President Mark Riedy, Obendorfer will be responsible for client management, nurturing TRUE’s talent pool and putting in place operational processes to ensure TRUE’s growth and service offerings align with client needs.
Obendorfer has been recognized as one of the 100 top tech PR executives globally, and brings to TRUE more than 15 years of experience in the tech industry and a decade in public relations. She has amassed rarely-matched expertise in the digital advertising landscape, providing counsel and developing communications programs for industry leaders such as Hearst, Medium and Outbrain. Many of the companies Obendorfer has worked with over the course of her career have been acquired, including Wildfire (acquired by Google), Bizo (acquired by LinkedIn), and Heat (acquired by Deloitte Digital) — a testament to the business goals her efforts help achieve.
Obendorfer also brings to TRUE’s outdoor clients an intimate understanding of their audience, through more than 15 years of racing road, mountain and cyclocross bikes; she’s also an avid backpacker and outdoor athlete. Obendorfer was part of the management committee for Singlespeed Cyclocross World Championships (SSCXWC) in San Francisco 2011 and Los Angeles 2012, managing public relations and social media communications for both events.
“On the heels of an amazing 2016, we’re well poised for an phenomenal year of growth in both our client base and with our team,” said Mark Reidy, president, TRUE Communications. “Meredith provides our firm with unparalleled insight into the technology industry, and with her extensive agency experience, she brings the skill set we need to continue our continued expansion into the technology industry. We’re also looking forward to getting out on a bike ride with her.”
“As a well-respected agency among outdoor brands and with huge early wins in the tech industry, TRUE has an amazing opportunity ahead of it,” said Obendorfer. “Over the course of my career, I’ve looked to connect my professional PR skills to my personal passion for the outdoors, and I couldn’t be more excited to do so at TRUE. I’m eager to help the firm achieve its true, eh hem, potential, as well as try to outsprint at least half the team.”
