Salt Lake City, UT — Team “Laurel’s Angels” stood out in the field of 350 attendees at the Mountain Dell Golf Course on Saturday, January 28th, for the fourth annual Tubbs Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer Snowshoe Series, which raised over $20,000 for the Salt Lake City Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
The winning team, captained by Salt Lake City resident Carol Graham, consisted of 44 members and raised $8,800 through their efforts.
The morning was clear and crisp and began with a 3K Fun Race. Tom Borshell of Berkley, CA took home top prize for the men by beating the field by almost four minutes. On the women’s side, breast cancer survivor and fan favorite Iris Tolley placed 5th in the women’s division with a time of 38:20. The winner in the women’s division was another Salt Lake City resident, Martha Stinson. Stinson finished with a time of 29:25.
Everyone was a winner in the 3k and 5k fun walks. Leading the pack was Graham. Not only did she captain the largest and most successful team at the event, she also raised $4,600 through her individual fundraising efforts. “It’s a great cause and a great event,†said Graham as she was collecting all of her prizes. “We’ll be back next year with an even bigger team.â€
The Tubbs Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer is a four-stop series that has raised over $250,000 for the Komen Foundation. “As a company, we believe in snowshoeing because it positively impacts people’s health and well being. The Romp to Stomp out Breast Cancer is a great illustration,” said Paul Adams, race director. Adams added, “Our hope is that one day we will do this race just for fun because we will have found a cure for breast cancer.”
