Tubbs® Snowshoes 2010 Romp to Stomp Season a Triumph

Company announces biggest year thus far in raising awareness and funds for breast cancer.

(June 2, 2010) – Tubbs® Snowshoes announced today the final numbers for the Tubbs Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer Snowshoe Series® in partnership with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. The 2010 season was the most successful on record for the snowshoe series, which consists of a combination of snowshoe races and snowshoe walks.

Since 2003, the dual-focus of fun competition and raising awareness for breast cancer has shown constant growth. The snowshoe series, now expanded to seven events each year, has raised 1.3 million dollars for breast cancer*research, screening and treatment and grown the total member base to 23,324 participants.

“This season was an amazing success,! fFrom day one we’ve been introducing people to snowshoeing through these events, but the increase in participation this year was astounding,” said Wendy Miller, event manager, Tubbs Romp to Stompâ„¢. “Everyone that came out this year helped us surpass that 1 million dollar mark in funds raised for breast cancer, a huge accomplishment,” she said.

The 2010 season showed the biggest growth yet, both in funds raised and participation numbers. This season’s seven events blew other stats out of the water by raising $327,843 for breast cancer research, screening and treatment and engaging 5,558 participants – that’s a 23 percent increase in participation that led to a 54 percent increase in funds raised. Contributing to this success was the introduction of a new event in Washington state which had double the number of anticipated participants and more than tripled its initial fundraising goal.

The series attracts all levels of snowshoers from young to old. This year, 24 percent of the participants tried snowshoeing for the first time at the event, and with the introduction of the Lil Romper program, a special discounted registration rate for children 12-years-old and under, the Romp became even more family-friendly and kids participation increased by 378 percent.

*The 1.3 million includes funds raised for Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in Canada and Susan G. Komen for the Cure® in the US.
