Auburn, CA – September 8, 2016- The competitive field at the Ultra Race of Champions (UROC) deepens this week with the addition of Mario Macias. UROC is a 100 kilometers trail race based in Auburn, California that strives to attract the best long distance runners from all over the World to create the Super Bowl for the sport of ultra distance running. The race challenges runners on a diverse yet fair course which does not favor one particular type of skills. Mario, who is originally from Mexico and now lives in Colorado Springs, has some very impressive personal bests on his resume: these include a 13:38 5,000 meter and 28:02 10,000 meters on track, 1:02:50 Half Marathon (the Colorado State Half Marathon record) and 2:15:58 Marathon on road. He recently won the Pikes Peak 50 Miler with a course record of 7:39:53 and the Aspen Backcountry Trail Marathon in also a course record of 3:06:22.

“For Mario Macias, UROC will be one of the first ultras he has competed at” say James Russell Gill III, Bad to the Bone Sport’s CEO and UROC founder. “He has two very impressive ultra performances under his belt, not to mention his extensive road running resume. Mario represents what UROC strives to achieve: to bring together the most talented long distance runners in the sport and give them a fair platform to compete against each other.”
“I am extremely excited to see how I stack up against some of the best long distance trail, road and mountain runners” says Mario. “UROC will get me one step closer to competing in the 100-mile distance.” Macias and the other talented runners in the men’s field will be competing for the $21,500 cash purse, $10,000 of which is allocated to the women’s and men’s winners ($5,000 each). The race remains open to everyone, celebrating the inclusive nature of the sport.
UROC will take place on September 24th, 2016 in Auburn, California. It will offer three options for runners: 100K, 50K and 25K.
