Ultralight and minimalist solo backpackers get exactly what they need and nothing more

SEATTLE, WA – July 17, 2017

None

Since MSR® (Mountain Safety Research) introduced its first mountaineering stove in 1973, the Seattle-based creator of backcountry gear has offered quality and reliable products for cooking while outdoors. For 2018, MSR introduces the PocketRocket® 2 Mini Stove Kit, built specifically for ultralight minimalists attempting to go farther and faster with less on their backs.

The lightweight, compact, all-in-one PocketRocket 2 Mini Stove Kit offers just what you need and nothing more for a solo trip. The kit comes equipped with the new-for-2017 PocketRocket® 2 stove – which boils 1 liter of water in 3.5 minutes – a .75L hard-anodized aluminum pot weighing 4.1 ounces, a cup/bowl, clear lid with port for straining, and an ultralight pot lifter. Sans nesting fuel canister, the kit weighs in at only 9.1 oz.

“Our cookware category was missing a true ultralight, compact cook kit for minimalists going on day trips, overnights, or fast-and-light missions,” explained Owen Mesdag, category manager for cookware at MSR. “This new kit gives you everything an ultralight adventurer could ask for and it all packs into itself neatly, making it hard to not bring along on day hikes for emergency purposes or the luxury of a hot drink along the way.”

The minimal components of the new stove kit are intelligently versatile, more user friendly than competitors’ solutions (meaning no burned fingers or lips), and perfectly appropriate for what the ultralight minimalist needs. For stove-free minimalist kits, MSR also introduces both the Trail Mini™ Solo – same kit as above sans PocketRocket 2 – and the Trail Mini™ Duo – offering a 1.2 L pot. Check out the new stove kit and cookware kits first-hand at the 2017 Summer Outdoor Retailer Trade Show in Salt Lake City, Utah.
