Baltimore, MD (August 1, 2016) —Under Armour (NYSE: UA, UA.C) will debut the new Horizon trail run footwear collection to media and retailers at the Summer Outdoor Retailer expo in Salt Lake City. The Horizon series is the latest in Under Armour technical trail running innovation featuring ESS rock plates, monocoque construction, durable welded overlays, internal fit systems, toe protection and industry-leading Michelin outsole compounds and lug design.

“The Horizon Series is a true technical trail running collection featuring best-in-class technologies to help outdoor athletes achieve their personal best,” said Chris Lindgren, Under Armour VP of Footwear, Outdoor & Training. “The Horizon Series is built for the needs of a wide variety of trail runners from the enthusiast out on a weekend run with their crew to elite competitors participating in Ultra’s or Vertical K races.”

Highlighting the UA Horizon collection, the neutral, biomechanically correct Horizon FKT(Fastest Known Time) is designed throughout for trail speed, agility and distance. Created with insights from UA ultra runner Kyle Dietz, the Horizon FKT is ultra light and durable, featuring a forefoot ESS plate for stone bruising protection, a translucent ripstop upper with internal forefoot bootie construction combined with a floating, perforated, high density foam tongue for superior fit, breathability and comfort. Michelin Oc Outsole Compound and Michelin Wild Dig Decent’ R lug pattern provides excellent traction and mud shedding in all conditions.
“The pinnacle Horizon FKT was built in collaboration with Kyle Dietz, who helped our design, development and product marketing teams prove this race ready product,” adds Lindgren. “From determining the most efficient offset of 7mm to exploring new lacing system concepts to address how the foot swells and contracts during a 50-100 mile race, Kyle was an integral part of this program. Kyle just set a course record at the Badland50 in Mississippi, beating the course record by 51 minutes wearing the Horizon FKTs.”
Additional features of the Horizon FKT’s include lacing that extends further down on the vamp to allow precise tuning during longer races, asymmetrical toe wrap for protection, Charged Foam cushioning for a responsive ride and a molded Ortholite insole.

The Horizon RTR (Run The Ridge) features a more aggressive outsole than the Horizon FKT for enhanced traction as well as downhill braking and is designed to maximize breathability and stability over a longer run. Charged Foam in the heel adds responsive all day comfort . Durable textile upper with an engineered welded urethane enhances airflow and protection. A reinforced toe bumper and ESS plate add an extra level of durability for puncture and abrasion resistance during adventures. A dynamic tongue construction for consistent fit and a molded Ortholite insole. The RTR places more emphasis on protection, fit and cushioning for a great comfortable experience from trailhead to the finish.

Rounding out the series, the Horizon STC (Stay The Course) was built for long training days and for versatile trail use. The Horizon STC features a bit beefier midsole profile, offering more cushioning for heel strikers and a higher foam wrap for added protection. A more conventional trail running offset heel to toe: 22mm Heel / 15mm forefoot. It also includes the critical performance features of ESS forefoot plate, durable one piece vamp construction, urethane welded midfoot support structure, dynamic tongue construction, Ortholite insole and aggressive lug design for traction as well as braking for a great trail experience.

“Performance, authenticity, innovation and ensuring a great consumer experience are the driving forces behind every product UA produces,” states Lindgren. “Our footwear design, development and product teams executed the vision, were extremely committed to proving and testing the product concepts and bringing the series to our consumer. We are very excited to get these shoes on trail with a broader audience and unveil the Series at Outdoor Retailer.”
