PHILADELPHIA, PA (TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2019) – United By Blue (UBB), the sustainable outdoor apparel brand that pledges to remove a pound of trash from the world’s oceans and waterways for every product sold, announces today their 2019 Waterway Cleanup Tour. The locations were strategically picked to strengthen relationships with key retail accounts, non-profits, brand partners, publishing partners, and customers outside of the greater Philadelphia region.

“In 2019, we’re setting off on a nationwide Waterway Cleanup Tour, bringing the mission side of our business directly to the customers that support us,” says Maria McDonald, UBB’s Cleanup Programs Coordinator. “The purpose of this Tour is to educate and engage our following, and invite them to take part in our Mission alongside us.”

The United By Blue cleanups crew will travel to 10 different cities and focus on a variety of national conservation days in efforts to pull a million pounds of trash – their goal based on total number of products sold. You can view the schedule here:

“In each city, we will work alongside local conservation groups and businesses in order to amplify the work already being done in the area,” McDonald says. “By partnering with strategic organizations, community leaders, and sustainably-minded businesses, we hope to build and strengthen the waterway conservation community, and encourage similar work to continue after we leave that area.”

The 2019 Community Cleanup Tour will be complemented by five cleanups in Philadelphia and a handful of illegal dumpsite cleanups. Illegal dumpsites occur when individuals or businesses try to avoid fees associated with responsible disposal and often cause extreme toil on the environment, particularly wildlife and waterways. You can learn more about illegal dumpsites at unitedbyblue.com/dumpsite.

The 2019 tour follows an impactful 2018 season where UBB team members and volunteers worked together to pull over 533,502 lbs of trash across 45 cleanups in 23 states (21 of which had never hosted a United By Blue cleanup). Other causes championed include Earth Day and World Oceans Day initiatives, and a California Wildfire Relief Mug.
