Boulder, Colo. – Upslope Brewing Company proudly promotes Sam Scruby to head brewer. Scruby is filling the shoes of Alex Violette, who is leaving Upslope to open Pasteur Street Brewing Company in Vietnam.
“Alex’s dedication and expertise has refined our process and our beer over the past five-plus years. He was an integral part of our success as we grew from a startup to a regional brewer. We wish him the best in his new venture and will miss seeing him around the brewhouse,” said Matt Cutter, founder of Upslope Brewing Company. “Sam has been brewing for us for several years now, and has quickly risen within the ranks. He has demonstrated that he has what it takes to bring us to the next level and we’re proud to call him our head brewer.”
Scruby has worked for Upslope Brewing Company since the company’s early days when he started in 2010. His career stemmed from his passion as a home brewer. After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder, he was able to further his desire for craft beer by joining Upslope as a canner. Through hard work, dedication and tremendous talent, Scruby eventually worked his way up to become a brewer in 2011. In the spring of 2013 he became the lead brewer for Upslope’s single batch and barrel aging program based out of the founding Lee Hill facility.
As head brewer, Scruby will work in collaboration with Upslope Director of Brewery Operations, Dany Pages. The duo will continue to bring Upslope fans their favorite year-round style offerings as well as unique flavor innovations.
“Alex has done an amazing job of helping to shape and transform Upslope into the respected brewery it is today and I look forward to building on his success,” said Scruby. “Coming from a small batch and barrel aging facility, I’ll continue to emphasize the innovative and experimental side of brewing, while maintaining the quality ales and lagers found inside Upslope cans. I’m excited and honored to have been presented with this opportunity.”
Toast to Scruby on his big promotion by dropping into either of Upslope Brewing Company’s Boulder-based locations for a cold beer on tap.
