U.S. Army Enlists PrimaLoft to Win the War on Cold

Albany, NY – Already chosen as the insulation of choice for the U.S. Special Forces’ Protective Combat Uniform, PrimaLoft®– Insulation Technologyâ„¢ has grabbed the attention of the U.S. Army. PrimaLoft® is now used in the Third Generation Extended Cold Weather Clothing System (GEN III ECWCS) designed to keep soldiers warm, dry and comfortable during all operations in extreme cold conditions.
The design of the Gen III ECWCS was inspired by the layering system currently used by mountaineering professionals. It consists of seven levels of moisture management and thermal protection that each fits and functions alone or as a system. PrimaLoft insulation is used in Level VII, the outer layer of the system, which includes the Extreme Cold Weather Parka and Trousers. The U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division field tested 18,000 GEN III ECWCS in Afghanistan and gave it strong reviews.

Berner added that the U.S. Army has contracted for 240,000 sets of the Gen III Level VII for its troops through May 2008.
