Vasque Athlete Duncan Callahan is Victorious at Spring Desert Ultra 50
In his third race of the year Vasque trail athlete, Duncan Callahan, takes first place and sets a personal record at the Spring Desert Ultra 50 miler.

Red Wing, MN – Kicking off his 2012 season on the right foot, Vasque ultra-runner, Duncan Callahan won the Spring Desert Ultra 50-miler in Fruita, CO this past weekend.
Due to lack of snow in the Rockies this winter, Callahan had the opportunity to train on the 14,000ft peaks near his hometown of Gunnison, CO, which put him in a great position at the beginning of the 2012 race season. Saturday morning, feeling strong and determined in his Vasque Transistors, Callahan took off at the Spring Desert Ultra neck and neck with Zeke Tiernan and Tim Parr. After 25 miles of grueling heat, 87 degrees in fact, Parr had to drop and Callahan and Tiernan were left fighting for the lead.
“By mile 27 to mile 30 we were pushing each other pretty hard and I knew I needed to get out of his sight to take the lead,” states Callahan. “By mile 31, I was able to open up a slight gap and that enabled me to take the win.”
Callahan is excited about his next race, the Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji on May 18, 2012. Postponed after the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit the area last March, the Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji will be the largest race of its kind in the world, according to the website. The race will be a 160km race around the base of Mt. Fuji that will allow athletes uninterrupted views of the massive mountain and the opportunity to push their limits.
