Vasque athlete Bryan Dayton ran to third place with a time of 4:34:57 at the Rock/Creek StumpJump in Chattanooga, TN. Between the 50K and 11-mile course, over 600 participants ran in the Vasque Project race, on a beautiful fall day with near perfect running conditions.
“I really enjoyed the difficult, challenging course,†says Dayton. “I’m pleased with my performance and podium finish in my hometown state.â€
StumpJump was selected as a Vasque Project race due to the stellar race experience it offers athletes and Rock/Creek’s dedication to giving back to the environment and the greater community. All proceeds from the race benefit the Cumberland Trail Conference, a non-profit organization dedicated to the completion and maintenance of the 300-plus mile Cumberland Trail that runs along the Cumberland Plateau from Chattanooga to Cumberland Gap. In 2008 the Rock/Creek StumpJump raised $9000 for trail work.
Vasque athletes continued to shine on Saturday, as Shiloh Mielke won the Triple Lakes half-marathon in Greensboro, NC with a time of 1:33:10. Mielke had to focus to stay upright on the rocky and root-filled terrain along Greensboro’s Watershed Trail system.
“I felt great and took the lead about 10 minutes into the race,†says Mielke. “Around mile 8 I noticed second place gaining momentum so I put in a surge and pushed hard to the finish.”
More than 350 other racers joined Mielke in finishing the half-marathon, marathon and 40-mile distance races under sunny skies.
Vasque selected The Triple Lakes Trail Run as part of the Vasque Project series for their community stewardship and success in donating over $30,000 to local charities and the park system since 2003.
“Dayton and Mielke had podium finishes at Vasque Project Races on the same day,†says Chris Speak, Vasque Brand Manager. “Vasque could not be more pleased with the representation and the great racer turn-out at these two stellar events.â€
