Cambridge, UK – Apple and Android users who enjoy the outdoors, now have a powerful, dedicated GPS navigation tool for hiking, mountain biking and any land activity with the new ViewRanger USA app. The app includes the highest quality topographic mapping for the United States marked with 250,000 miles of trails that can be downloaded in advance and cached for access when cell phone coverage is unavailable.
ViewRanger supports all the features you expect of a top-end GPS device, including track recording, waypoint navigation, map coordinate entry and GPX file exchange. In sports computer mode, it offers a choice of 30 metrics with customizable text, dial or graph view screens. It also uses the smartphone’s connectivity to support map download on the move, real-time phone-to-phone and phone-to-web location sharing, and wireless synchronization with the web based route planning and social media sharing tools at My.ViewRanger.com. ViewRanger has also created a Canadian mapping layer which is available as an add-on.
Most recently, ViewRanger has added automated “route generation” to its suite of web tools at My.ViewRanger.com. Whether travelling by foot, bike, or car, this new feature provides users the option of quickly mapping out their next adventure by entering a start location and destination. The optional add-on service is enabled under a licensing agreement with Primordial, the leader in off-road navigation software, and means that outdoor enthusiasts can use their patented “Ground Guidance” software to make creating a personalized route quicker and easier.
In addition to finding trails and creating your own routes, you can also download expert authored trail guides to the app from renowned guidebook publishers such as Menasha Ridge/Wilderness Press. Each guided trail comes complete with text description, images from the book and the marked path which can be navigated using the apps on-screen visual guidance.
