Wagner Custom Skis Announces Partnership with CS Irwin Cat Skiing

Telluride, CO (February 14th, 2010) – Wagner Custom Skis, the Telluride, Colorado-based leader in custom ski fitting science, today announced a strategic partnership with CS Irwin of Crested Butte, a backcountry snowcat skiing operation. Wagner Custom has crafted a fleet of 20 pair of skis as well as six Winterstick Snowboards for CS Irwin’s unique client needs.

As a custom ski company, Wagner Custom typically builds individual skis for individual skiers, specifically designing each pair for the skier’s ability, preferred terrain, conditions, and skiing style. In an unprecedented move, Wagner Custom is providing a fleet of skis to cover the needs of CS Irwin’s powder-chasing clients.

“We generally only build one pair of skis for one specific client in staying true to our business model, but after meeting with CS Irwin, we felt we could design and create a ski for their specific range of conditions and skier abilities without sacrificing high performance,” said Pete Wagner, founder of Wagner Custom. “For their fleet, they need a high-performance ski with a lot of float and a smooth ride – and as a high-end operation with discerning clients, it just made sense for us to meet the challenge of meeting their needs.”

“We are generally skiing in powder, but we needed skis versatile enough to be strong in crud and corn as well. We also needed a ski that could accommodate a very broad range of clients – we have people who are skiing powder for the first time, as well as people who have logged serious vertical in their lives,” said CS Irwin Snow Safety Director Billy Rankin. “We chose to work with Wagner Custom due to Pete’s reputation for dealing with minute details and his attention to craftsmanship with the best materials available.”

Attributing the versatility of the skis to Wagner’s high quality ash and maple cores, Rankin went on to say, “It totally surprised us, many of our guests show up with the intention of using their own skis, but as soon as they take a run on the Wagner Customs, they don’t go back to theirs…and there is a serious transformation in their skiing.”
