VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA — Westcomb, the 100% Canadian-made performance outerwear innovators, today announced the debut of the Chrome Jacket — a first-ever combination of Primaloft® insulation and Polartec NeoShell®.
Designed, tested and built in Vancouver, the Chrome Jacket (615g/22 oz, $550) is a Primaloft® laminate-lined NeoShell® piece that pairs remarkable waterproof-breathable technology with the established leader in synthetic insulation.
The result is a full stretch insulation jacket that moves with your body, effectively eliminating restriction, cold spots and the chance of wind or water getting through to your core.
“While all previous Westcomb designs featuring NeoShell® have been focused on extreme lightweight designs, the Chrome gave us with a chance to take a remarkable material and push it in a wholly new direction,” said Alan Yiu, president and lead designer for Westcomb.
Polartec® NeoShell® is a durable water- and windproof nylon weave with revolutionary air-permeability and stretch performance. PrimaLoft® is a high performance insulation technology that achieves consistent warmth through a combination of ultra-fine and multi-diameter fibres.
The combination of Primaloft and Polartec NeoShell is new to the marketplace, but is simply another innovative pairing on Westcomb’s long list of firsts. Westcomb’s heritage of unique material pairings includes the first Primaloft insulated eVent hardshell (2006 ); the first softshell/fleece hybrid jacket (2007); the first 4-way stretch insulated softshell insulated with Primaloft (2008); the first body mapping with Schoeller WB400 stretch panel on hardshell (2009); and the first Polartec NeoShell jacket (2011).
Key features on the Chrome include the Stowaway Storm Hood, a 3-point adjustable hood that’s roomy yet compacts comfortably into a gusseted collar. Bungee cords on each side of the hood and a third in back adjust with one-handed ease, keeping your other hand ready for the unexpected. Two lined hand pockets serve up relief from the frigid cold, while a high collar with a Velour-lined chin-guard provides comfort and protection from the elements.
