WIGWAM® CONTINUES TO BE A PROUD SPONSOR OF PROJECT ATHENA
SHEBOYGAN, Wis., Nov. 3, 2008 – Wigwam is continuing a strong relationship with the Project Athena Foundation in helping women with breast cancer and other medical or traumatic setbacks live their athletic and adventurous dreams. Project Athena is growing fast nationally and recently has gained exposure globally. As a part of this partnership, Wigwam would like to give an update on Project Athena’s latest news.
The most recent Athenaship recipient is 50-year-old Lonnie Kitch, a San Diego native. In May of 2004, Lonnie was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and went from being a firefighter and mom to fighting for her life. After 3 surgeries in 6 weeks, 4 and a half months of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiation, she was weak and glad her treatment was over. With her love of the outdoors, Lonnie’s dream with Project Athena was to hike the Grand Canyon as soon as she beat the cancer. A few weeks ago Lonnie fulfilled her dream. Carrying her 30 lb. pack in and out of the canyon on a very rocky and treacherous trail, Lonnie persevered and achieved her goal.
“Whether you are jogging around the lake or living an athletic or adventurous dream, Wigwam has the socks to fit Project Athena’s athletes’ needs,†said Margaret Chesebro, field marketing manager for Wigwam. “It always feels good knowing that Wigwam is supporting such a great cause. Seeing the Wigwam logo on these heroic athletes’ apparel and tracking their success is truly inspiring for us as a company.â€
