CHEYENNE, WY—OutdoorGearLab.com revealed today the results of the 2013 Editors’ Choice Awards for the Women’s Fleece Jacket category, listing this year’s best and best value for Women’s Fleece Jacket. The OutdoorGearLab Review Editors chose the following winners after extensive field testing in the High Sierra and the Colorado Front Range. We took sixteen women’s fleece jackets and put them to head-to-head tests to figure out what was the best in the following categories: wind resistance, water resistance, breathability, comfort and cozyness, warmth, layering over, layering under, ease of movement, and style and fit. We think some of the most important aspects of a fleece jacket are that it is warm and comfortable, and that you would use it as an extra layer. Even though all the fleeces we reviewed were of high quality, we did find that some fleeces are better for certain applications than others. Each underwent extensive side by side tests to evaluate these key performance metrics. View the complete

The winners are:
Patagonia Piton Hybrid Hoody – Women’s winner of the Editor’s Choice Award for 2013. According to Gear Editor Amanda Fenn, “If I had to buy just one jacket to do it all – from coffee shops to alpine summits – it would be the Patagonia Piton. In addition to being super packable for mountain missions, the Piton also has a flattering, tailored fit that looks great around town. Its feminine lines and fabric combinations earned it extra points in our style metric.”
Marmot Flair Hoody winner of the Best Buy award for 2013. This award is given to a product that balances an extremely high score in our tests and a very reasonable price. According to Amanda Fenn, “At only $100, this cozy jacket made of plush Raschel fleece will keep you warm and comfy without breaking the bank. The Flair Hoody falls at the hip and has a flattering cut that won’t hide your figure. We also loved the super soft interior of this fleece’s hood, which felt ultra-cozy against our cheeks and ears.”
Patagonia R1 Hoody – Women’s winner of the Top Pick award for 2013. This award is given to a product that excels at a specific application. According to Amanda Fenn, “The minimalist R1 Hoody doesn’t have many stylish qualities or bells and whistles, but it you’ll be psyched you have it from the moment you first take it outside. The hood on this fleece makes it far more versatile as a mid-layer; add to that the fact that the hood zips into a balaclava that reaches up over the nose and you’re in heaven. “
