LAKE OSWEGO, Ore., June 24, 2019 – Yakima, a global leader in vehicle racks and cargo solutions, is proud to announce that it received a Best in Show award from GearJunkie.com at the recent Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. The coveted recognition was given for Yakima’s new DoubleHaul fly rod carrier, one of three fishing rod carriers introduced by Yakima at the show.
“We couldn’t be prouder of this recognition from Gear Junkie,” said Garrett Barnum, Category Director – Top of Car, Truck, Camp. “Years of research, strategy, and hard work went into the design of the DoubleHaul, TopWater, and ReelDeal. Collectively, they represent a significant step forward in the way anglers are able to transport their valuable rods and reels.”
The popular outdoor gear web site handed out just 10 Best in Show awards at Summer OR, which was attended by 1,400 exhibiting brands from across the outdoor industry. This is Yakima’s second GearJunkie.com Best in Show award in as many years. The company won for its OutPost HD truck rack at the 2018 Summer Market.
“Our editorial team scours dozens and dozens of booths for the latest and greatest, and only after collective deliberation, with multiple eyes on each nominated project, do we choose our winners,” said Nicole Qualtieri, Hunt + Fish Editor at Gear Junkie. “The Yakima DoubleHaul is unlike anything our team has seen in the fly-fishing market. With careful consideration for both design and how we store our rods and our rooftop racks, we felt that the DoubleHaul represents the next step in rooftop storage evolution.”
Designed with avid flyfishers in mind, the DoubleHaul offers superior protection for up to four fly rods or two fly rods and two spey rods. The DoubleHaul accommodates rods up to 10 feet in length and most reels up to size 12. The best part? Rods can be stored fully strung up for fast and easy access. The four aluminum rod tubes that comprise the carrier each contain a plastic sleeve to securely hold a fly rod and prevent wear and abrasion on the blank and guides. Felt padding prevents marring on the reels, and the reel box features a Yakima SKS lock for worry-free security. The DoubleHaul easily mounts—and locks—to any vehicle crossbars with its tool-free, low-profile universal mounting hardware, and the carrier can be configured to half its length for smaller vehicles. The MSRP for the DoubleHaul is $699, and it will be available at retail in August.
