BEAVERTON, Ore. – Reinforcing its commitment to the performance and recreational cycling communities, Yakima (www.yakima.com), an innovator in vehicle racks for bikes, boats, winter sports gear, and cargo solutions, today announced its expanded program of race sponsorships for 2011 including: the Amgen Tour of California (www.amgentourofcalifornia.com), May 16 – 23, 2011, the Tour of Utah, (www.tourofutah.com) August 9-14, 2011, and the US Pro Cycling Challenge (www.usaprocyclingchallenge.com), August 22-28, 2011. In addition, Yakima will partner with the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (www.nationalmtb.org) as a bronze sponsor connecting the brand with the next generation of mountain bikers in grades 9 through 12.
“From mountain bike to road biking, high school students to professional athletes, domestic cycling participation in the US continues to expand,†said Joel Grabenstein, marketing and promotions manager at Yakima.
“Supporting these world class events and respected non-profits that make cycling more accessible to more people fosters continued growth for the sport and the industry. We chose these particular events because they reach a broad range of demographics, and drive substantial economic impact for local communities and local cycling retailers.â€
As the Official Rack Partner for the Amgen Tour of California, Yakima will provide racks for over 40 team vehicles and logistical support for this eight-stage race from Nevada City to Thousand Oaks. The Tour of Utah takes place in six stages over six days and takes riders along the Wasatch Range and throughout Utah. It covers more than 400 total miles of racing through some of Utah’s most beautiful and challenging terrain and has recently been elevated to a 2.1 status UCI race attracting new international participation. Lastly, the USA Pro Cycling Challenge is regarded as the most demanding bike race on American soil taking racers through the high altitudes of the Rocky Mountains. “The first year event is certain to become a permanent fixture on the international circuit for years to come,†continued Grabenstein.
For each race, Yakima will provide racks for 40 plus team and SAG vehicles, installation, technical support and participation in the consumer expo.
As the sole rack sponsor for National Interscholastic Cycling Association, Yakima will provide in-kind and financial assistance. This group encourages the development of mountain biking leagues throughout the Unite States. Currently, there are leagues in California and Colorado with next leagues launching in Washington, Texas and Minnesota in 2011 and 2012.
