PORTLAND, ORE. (November 18, 2010) – With Americans downsizing to smaller cars, Colorado travelers hitting the road for Thanksgiving or taking their first trip to the slopes face new challenges on where to put luggage, family and gear. Yakima (www.yakima.com/colorado), known for vehicle racks for boats, bikes, camping, winter sports gear, trailers and cargo solutions, has a number of options for consumers looking for smart alternatives that have less space. Top of car options include the GetOut™ Pro (MSRP $149), the RocketBox™15 (MSRP $329), and SkyBox™ 16 (MSRP $435).

Yakima, the “Official Vehicle Rack” for Copper Mountain and Winter Park Resort, has joined forces with these Front Range destinations offering two promotions benefitting wintersport enthusiasts. For holders of the Rocky Mountain Superpass or season passes to Winter Park or Copper Mountain, consumers receive rebates of up to $50.00 on specified Yakima snow mounts or cargo boxes. Consumers purchasing over $350 in Yakima products receive a free Winter Park lift ticket.

“No matter how you work the numbers, it’s smarter to buy a cargo box rather than a bigger car,” said Joel Grabenstein, marketing and promotions manager at Yakima. “Our racks are user-friendly and practical and have a life- time warranty, an important benefit for today’s consumer.”

The GetOut Pro, with 13 cubic ft. of storage space, is an alternative to a hard shell cargo box. Its folds or rolls up for easy storage, attaches easily to raised factory side rails, crossbars or a cargo basket and has weather resistant sealed seams.Â

The RocketBox 15s, with 15 cubic feet for shorter roofs, works well with sedans or larger-vehicles.

The lockable SkyBox 16, with 16 cubic feet of storage, has an aerodynamic shape that reduces drag and cuts back on wind noise.
