Yakima's FatCat 6 Named Gear of the Year by Men's Journal

Winter Sports Rack Recognized at Gear of the Year Event in New York City

BEAVERTON, Ore. (November 20, 2006) – Yakima, a leading innovator in vehicle rack solutions for boats, bikes, winter sports gear, home storage and cargo options, was recently named to Men’s Journal’s, “Gear of the Year” list in the December issue for its integrated binding lift and hinge technology on the FatCat 6 ski and board rack. The widest ski and board mount on the market, the FatCat 6 holds up to six pairs of wide skis or four snowboards. Thursday, November 9, 2006, Yakima’s FatCat 6 was recognized at Men’s Journal’s Gear of the Year event at The Explorer’s Club in New York City.

“We are proud to have the FatCat 6 recognized by such a well-respected publication in our industry,” said Mike Steck, senior marketing director at Yakima. “The Yakima brand has always been committed to providing innovative solutions that keep in tune with today’s consumer needs.”

In addition to the FatCat 6, Yakima also offers the FatCat 4, accommodating four pairs of powder skis or two boards. Incorporating Yakima’s proprietary design language, this rack family’s integrated binding lift technology keeps larger bindings off of the vehicle’s roof, preventing scratches. Aerodynamic nesting arms and a unique internal hinge system gives this rack a low profile while in use, reducing noise and drag on the vehicle, while giving it sleek style. Universal mounting attachments make this rack versatile for round, square and factory bars. MSRP: FatCat6: $199.00; FatCat4: $189.00.

“Compared to the competition, no rack can hold as many skis or boards with this much style,” continued Steck. “We looked at ease of use and ergonomics and refined this season’s products down to the smallest details. Whether it’s carrying an extra pair of skis or boards, or piling in a car with ten of your best friends, Yakima has solutions that make sense and get it done.”
