Implus brands Yaktrax and Little Hotties announced today they have officially completed their purchase of 2009 renewable energy certificates from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF). Through the energy saving initiative, Implus was able to assist BEF in providing enough clean energy to power over 41,000 homes in both Texas and Iowa.

“We are excited to be working with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation and to support renewable energy initiatives, and we are committed to continuing this very important effort,” said Todd Vore, President of Implus. “This partnership provides an avenue to help us demonstrate to our employees, customers and community that environmental sustainability is core to our business practices.”

Through Implus’ Yaktrax brand, the company purchased certificates to support Forest Creek Wind Farm, which helped provide clean energy to approximately 35,000 homes in the city of Midland, Texas. Through Implus’ Little Hotties Warmers brand, Implus purchased certificates to support the Crosswind Wind Project, which provided enough clean energy to power approximately 6,000 homes in the city of Ruthven, IA.

The purchase of renewable energy certificates is just one of the many elements of Implus’ overall corporate sustainability initiative. Other environmental best-practices include: using recycled content and producing recyclable materials; using printing inks that are vegetable based; substituting sustainable materials whenever possible; and encouraging active participation among all employees.

BEF ensures all of their renewable energy resources meet rigorous environmental criteria endorsed by leading environmental groups including the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). In addition, all of their Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) and Carbon Offsets are certified by Green-e, the country’s leading independent consumer protection organization for REC and Carbon Offset sales.

“BEF is proud to partner with Implus’ brands Yaktrax and Little Hotties. Both brands demonstrate a strong commitment to the environment through their product lifecycle and employee engagement initiatives,” said Margie Gardner, CEO at BEF.

About the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF)
Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) is an entrepreneurial nonprofit that is creating a more sustainable future by investing now in clean energy and fresh water. When customers purchase BEF’s independently certified carbon offsets and renewable energy certificates, they support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the development of new renewable energy facilities. Additionally, their purchase supports long-term watershed restoration and renewable energy education for students and communities nationwide because BEF reinvests its net revenue to fund its Model Watershed and Solar 4R Schools programs. Since its inception in Portland, Ore. in 1998, BEF has been a pioneer in helping people and companies become better stewards of the environment. For more information, see: www.b-e-f.org.
