Fitness retailer Push, Pedal, Pull recently announced it had opened a new Minnesota location, and another store is set to open in the state this week.
The Sioux Falls, S.D.-based chain, which RD Rogers Company sold to GetFit Holdings in January, opened a retail location in Burnsville, Minn., in March and another store will open in Maple Grove this week, bringing the total number of stores to 12.
To staff the two new stores, P3 plans to hire three new sales associates and has brought in Zane Christensen, who was previously with 2nd Wind Exercise Equipment, to manage the Burnsville location. So far, business has been good in Burnsville, said P3 Store Manager Luke Reiland, who will head up the Maple Grove store.
“The Burnsville store is doing tremendously well,” said Reiland, who’s been working with Christensen there since the opening. “It’s actually exceeded our expectations, especially in the first month [in terms of] sales numbers. We’re seeing very high-quality customers, very serious customers.”
Reiland said there wasn’t a specialty fitness retailer in the Minneapolis area that sold Precor, which is the company’s premiere brand. Commercial sales for P3 have done well in the area during its history.
“It was just common sense to open some stores up here and hit this entire area,” Reiland said. Offering Precor in the Minneapolis market gives P3 and edge over its competition, Reiland said, and has been a goal of P3 President Martin Bruder since January.
And Christensen said P3 offers a different take on selling equipment.
“We take a personal training approach to selling this equipment,” Christensen said in a news release. “We want to find the right piece of equipment that meets your goals.”
The 6,000-square foot Maple Grove store also will have a warehouse, distribution center and a refurbishment center for pre-owned equipment. It will have spacious conference rooms and a training facility for onsite exercise programs.
Growth was part of the plan when the 26-year-old company was taken over by GetFit Holdings in January, Reiland said, and eventually the company plans to open two more stores in the Minneapolis area.
