Earlier this year, SNEWS launched a new series of gear reviews written by retailers, for retailers. Our team covered almost every category, from Nite Ize’s new dry bags to United By Blue’s multi-sport shorts.

Now we’re taking Retailer Reviews to the next level. Along with our core testing team of Betsy Bertram from Townsend Bertram & Company, Joe Miller from Great Outdoor Provision Company, and Bill Bernhard from Roam’n Around, we’re opening up the floor to specialty outdoor retailers across the country to submit reviews of popular products.

Our goal with this column is to collect product feedback from a diverse set of experts who are on the front lines of retail every day and who are also avid users of the gear they sell. In addition to highlighting a product’s feature, we’re also diving into how gear sells in stores. What about the price point makes it an easy sell? Is there something about the display that draws customers in? Does it feature something customers have been asking for? How can other retailers be just as successful selling it?

To be a gear tester, we only require a few things:

1. You must be an employee at a specialty outdoor retail shop.

2. The product you pitch must be sold in your store. New this season and perennial best sellers alike are welcome.

3. You will be asked to test the product for a few weeks in various conditions. You will then be asked to write a 300- to 500-word review with photos. Part of the review should focus on the gear’s features; the other part should focus on how the product is selling in the store and why.

4. Once we edit and post the review, share it on your personal and store social media accounts.
