The retail floor experience is where so many careers in the outdoor industry are born. SNEWS, in partnership with The North Face, is thrilled to announce a new program that celebrates the passion and energy of the talented people on the fronts lines of our industry: The Shop Stars that interact with our customers every day.
Shop Stars is a crowd-sourced awards program that allows specialty retail shop owners and managers to not only reward the outstanding young people that work in their shops, but open doors for them.
The program has 3 goals:
1. To engage and support independent specialty retailers
2. To help us all identify an upcoming talent pool
3. To engage and excite young shop employees by showing them what sort of careers the outdoor industry has to offer, and groom the next generation of leaders in our industry.
The grand prize winner of Shop Star will receive a beyond-belief prize package from The North Face, plus an all-expense paid trip to the brand new Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show in January 2018. At the show, the winner will experience an unprecedented industry immersion through a combined internship that will show them some of the key job paths that the outdoor industry has to offer.
Winners will spend time working alongside athletes and product experts at The North Face booth, with reporters, editors, and photographers at SNEWS/OR Daily, with veteran sales reps, and with some of the industry’s most engaging PR personalities.
And of course, he/she will get to meet other retailers from around the country, and have ample time to roam the aisles of the show—and drool.
The Shop Star winner will also star in a feature article/profile on SNEWS, which will give them an opportunity to announce their career goals, show their strengths, and get a first-class introduction to the industry. Job offers are sure to follow!
