VF Corp. is the latest big retailer to announce temporary closures due to coronavirus. Steve Rendle, VF chairman, president, and CEO announced in a press release that all VF retail locations—including The North Face, Icebreaker, Smartwool, and Timberland—will shutter through at least April 5. Staff will continue to receive pay and benefits. Additionally, all HQ employees have been asked to work remotely.

Online sales remain open and additional measures have been taken to product the employees in those facilities.

These actions are consistent with how VF has responded to the coronavirus in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. In Asia, where they are through the worst of it, stores are opening again. VF reports that 90 percent of it’s stores in China are now open, and traffic is slowly improving.

VF would not disclose the total number of U.S. stores effected, but The North Face alone has 116 retail storefronts. A spokesperson did say that globally VF has 1,437 retail shops.

Throughout other parts of the world, including South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom, stores are still open but with limited hours.
