Did you hear?…Vancouver Olympic Committee clarifies fitness equipment suppliers to 2010 Games

A representative of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) contacted SNEWS® to clear up what appeared to be a misconception that Aloyd Fitness was a sponsor of the Olympic Games — see our Dec. 23, 2009, SNEWS story, “Aloyd Fitness nails prestigious Olympic contract. Let the Games begin!”

Rick Ramsbottom, VANOC manager of revenue and special projects, told SNEWS, “Aloyd Fitness did not receive a contract from VANOC, but rather from a VANOC partner.

“While Aloyd Fitness has received a supply contract, their equipment is not being used by the Olympic organizing committee or Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games athletes,” said Ramsbottom.

“In fact, the majority of the equipment being used by VANOC in both athletes’ villages, as well as at all competition venues, has been supplied by Life Fitness,” Ramsbottom told SNEWS. Some equipment has also been supplied by Eleiko, a Swedish company that specializes in competitive weightlifting equipment (www.eleikosport.se).

VANOC is very appreciative of the equipment coming from Life Fitness and Eleiko to the Games, he added, “and we are excited that Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games athletes competing in Vancouver will be able to use this best-in-class equipment.”
